Project Background

Today we’re excited to share the Before and After photos of a very fun project we’ve been working on with Sara Tramp, an Emily Henderson staffer and talented ceramist. Sara has been renovating her LA craftsman and when it came time to start thinking about the finishing details – like Roman shades – she reached out to us for help. The light control and privacy requirements of each room differed, so Sara knew she needed the advice and guidance of a window coverings expert.

Which brings us to the first step of the design project – the in-home design consultation.

The Design Consultation

Last fall, Decorview designer Laurel, met with Sara to help her find a solution for her windows. After reviewing lots of fabric samples and discussing the unique requirements for each room, Sara chose flat-style Roman shades. Although Sara’s home is a classic craftsman, her decorating style skews more California cool, so she wanted to make sure the window treatments she chose perfectly complemented the original architecture of the home AND coordinated well with modern furnishings.

And we think Laurel and Sara nailed it! So without further ado, let’s check out the reveals.

Window Treatments for A Modern Living and Dining Room

Because the living room and dining room were technically one large space, Sara decided to use the same fabric on both the windows – a classic white linen. And the results are just beautiful. The custom Roman shades soften the window and add visual interest without outshining the rest of the standout pieces in the room.

Maintaining a light and bright space was also super important to Sara and she loves how the fabric lets in in soft filtered light, even when they’re pulled down for privacy.

Window Treatments for a TV Room

This room is hands down our favorite in the house and we love how our charcoal gray roman shades help create the wonderful moody atmosphere in the space. For this room, room-darkening was a must, so each shade featured a liner to help eliminate any light leakages for the perfect viewing environment.

Here’s what Sara had to say about these amazing shades: “…the window treatments are a heavy woven linen, which add another touch of rich textile. Their thickness and the heavy weave of the linen feel like a call back to rugs being hung over the stone walls in castles to help keep rooms warm. These also happen to be double-lined (blackout – aka perfect for daytime movie watching), so they feel extra warm.”

Custom Roman Shades for a Guest Room/Office

Next up is the guest room/office combo. Here’s what Sara had to say about the window treatments in this double-duty room: “…the blackout linen roman shades from Decorview make this room perfect for any guests who like to sleep in a little. They’re the same ones that we have in the living room and dining room, which is a nice tie in between the spaces.”
